Domestic Abuse is not just about physical violence and it doesn’t just happen between men and women or parents and children. Domestic abuse can cause long term damage to children who see it, hear it or are part of it even if the abuse is not directed at them.
There is help available to both victims and perpetrators and contrary to popular opinion reporting it will not usually lead to the victim losing their children. However, continuing to allow a child to remain at risk by failure to report abuse or neglect can lead to official action so it’s important to find out what you can do to help yourself and any children involved whether you are abused or the abuser. If you or your children are the victim of abuse, research shows it is safer to get advice about how best to protect yourself from any reaction before you leave the abuser.
